Scott Lloyd, the son of former Great Britain Davis Cup player David Lloyd, has been appointed as the new CEO of the Lawn Tennis Association, according to Stuart Fraser of the LONDON TIMES. Lloyd, 41, replaces Michael Downey, who "departs the national governing body of British tennis after just three and a half years on June 30, three days before the start of Wimbledon, to return to his old job as CEO of Tennis Canada." There will be an interim six-month period before Lloyd "formally takes up his position" in January. During this time, the LTA's current exec team will "take care of the day-to-day running" of the organization. Lloyd has "always been the frontrunner for the position, with a wealth of experience in the leisure club industry." He raised £23M to launch the Next Generation Clubs chain by the age of 23 and is currently the deputy chair of David Lloyd Clubs, the company formed by his father in '82 (LONDON TIMES, 6/13). In London, Simon Briggs reported David Lloyd has been a "regular critic" of the LTA. He said, "The LTA do not run the game very well. They haven't for many, many, many years. They have poor management, poor systems. Andy Murray is a great player but we have no juniors coming through. We have no system." Downey's "main achievement" in his three years has been an "improvement in participation rates, which were shrinking" at 13% per year when he arrived and are now growing at 6%, according to LTA figures (TELEGRAPH, 6/13).
