Australian Sports Commission, AIS Allocate More Than A$120M To Sport

Para sport, winter sport and national women’s teams received significant boosts in high performance funding as the Australian Sports Commission and Australian Institute of Sport announced the Australian government’s investment of almost A$122M ($92M) in national sporting organizations for '17-18. High performance funding to sports has increased by A$3.6M ($2.7M) to A$101.6M ($76.5M) in '17-18, while the ASC has allocated more than A$20M ($15M) to sports for participation activities. The high performance funding boost will help Australian athletes prepare for '18, which includes the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. The AIS allocated high performance funding to 62 programs for '17-18, with 30 receiving an increase on their '16-17 funding. Additional funding from the Australian government enabled the AIS to invest more than A$55M ($41.4M) in high performance programs that will be featured at the 2018 CWG. The AIS is investing almost A$4.2M ($3.2M) in Olympic winter sports and more than A$1M ($750,000) in Paralympic winter sports for next year's Games in PyeongChang, an increase of A$792,000 ($596,400) (23%) and A$75,000 ($56,500) (8%), respectively, for '17-18 (AIS).
