Franchise Notes: West Ham Announces Season Ticket Renewal Record

Premier League side West Ham announced a "record number of season ticket renewals" for the '17-18 season. More than 90% of the club's 52,000 season ticket holders have opted to renew, "while supporters on the waiting list have registered their desire to purchase the remaining seats." The club moved into the London Stadium last year and are "set to boast the highest number of season ticket holders of any club in the capital" (London EVENING STANDARD, 6/1).

League Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers have been forced to deny sports agent Jorge Mendes "leads recruitment at the club" after unveiling new Manager Nuno Espírito Santo. Mendes is the agent of Santo and has also "placed a number of players at Wolves since Chinese company Fosun took control last summer." Concerns among fans have been raised at the Portuguese intermediary's "level of influence" but Wolves Managing Dir Laurie Dalrymple insisted it "did not go beyond an advisory role" (London DAILY MAIL, 6/1).

Real Madrid will look to win its 12th European Cup title when it plays Juventus on Saturday and there is "plenty of extra incentive for the players." Never before has a team "managed to defend that title in the current era" and it gives the club the chance to pick up a "long overdue double" along with its La Liga crown. In the event that Real wins the double this season, "it was agreed that each player would be paid" €1.5M ($1.7M) for his efforts (MARCA, 5/31).
