Cricket Australia Reveals Big Bash League Lost A$33M Over First Five Years

Cricket Australia revealed the "runaway success" of the Big Bash League lost A$33M ($25M) over its first five years and has not been the "cash cow many believe," according to Russell Gould of the HERALD SUN. The expected revenue to be pulled in by the next TV deal for the "exploding" Twenty20 tournament, which "could jump" from A$20M ($15M) a year to as much as A$60M ($45M) a season, is a "key driver" in predictions of upward of A$2B ($1.5B) in revenue for CA over the next five years. Both CA and the Australian Cricketers' Association are "fighting over the best way to divide the big influx of cash" between the players, grassroots cricket, investment for growth and administrative spend in the next memorandum of understanding (HERALD SUN, 5/30).
