Winner Of League Championship Final To Secure $375M Windfall

On Monday, League Championship sides Huddersfield Town and Reading "will battle it out for what is considered the most valuable match in world football," according to SKY SPORTS. Promotion to the Premier League for either club "will see an uplift in revenue" of at least £170M ($220M), rising to more than £290M ($375M) "if they survive their first season in the Premier League." Deloitte Sports Business Group partner Dan Jones said, "Wembley's winner-takes-all clash will be a fantastic advert for both the Premier League and the Championship." The winner of the League Championship playoff final, along with already promoted Brighton & Hove Albion, can expect a revenue increase of at least £170 million across the next three seasons. This is a combination of extra revenue they will earn from playing in the Premier League in '17-18 and parachute payments in '18-19 and '19-20 should they be relegated after one season (totaling an estimated £75M ($97M) across two seasons)" (SKY SPORTS, 5/25).
