Facility Notes: Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu Renovations Approved

Real Madrid "will soon be given the green light" for the Santiago Bernabéu to "undergo a makeover." The club's plans to get its 70-year-old stadium renovated "have been given a boost" after the city's Commission for Sustainable Urban Development "approved the project" on Wednesday. Final permission is expected to be granted on May 30 following a council meeting (ESPN.com, 5/25).

Australian Open venue Margaret Court Arena will not be renamed "despite the 24-time Grand Slam champion's opposition to same-sex marriage." The Australian, 74, now a Christian pastor, said that she will not fly on Qantas "where possible" in protest of its support of same-sex marriage. Tennis Australia stated that her personal views "are her own" (BBC, 5/25).

Glasgow's Hampden Park execs "stepped up their game ahead of the Scottish Cup final by installing the largest in-stadia screens in the country." The state-of-the-art installation in the East and West Stands is "part of the first phase of development work at the national stadium." The work "comes after the ground was chosen to host games" as part of Euro 2020. Each screen is 5.49m high and 19.75m wide, covers 108 square meters and weighs almost six tons (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 5/25).

Women's Super League 1 side Chelsea Ladies will share Wimbledon's Kingsmeadow ground from the start of the next WSL1 season in September. The Blues will remain at Staines Town's Wheatsheaf Park ground until the WSL Spring Series finishes on June 3, "before the switch to a winter league" (BBC, 5/25).
