Football Notes: EFL Execs Voice Concerns Over Millwall Fans' Pitch Invasion

English football execs said on Monday that they would "voice concerns" to Wembley Stadium "over the way Millwall fans ran onto the pitch" following Saturday's League One playoff victory, "raising fears that such invasions are on the rise." The EFL condemned "unsavoury scenes" at the end of Millwall's 1-0 win over Bradford City when "hundreds of fans burst past stewards." A "small number then taunted Bradford players as they went to the dressing rooms." Millwall Manager Neil Harris ordered all supporters from the pitch and the club's players "condemned the behaviour" (REUTERS, 5/22).

A bookmaker "paid out to three people who bet on the specific time of Chelsea captain John Terry's 26th-minute substitution" against Sunderland at odds of 100-1. Paddy Power accepted the wagers on Terry being substituted between the times of 26:00 and 26:59 in Sunday's Premier League match at Stamford Bridge, "his last in the competition as a Chelsea player" (PA, 5/22).

Atlético Madrid Manager Diego Simeone promised to "stay at the capital city club." The Argentine's future "has been the subject of plenty of speculation, but he reiterated his commitment to the team on Sunday." Simeone: "Journalists continually ask me if I'm going to stay and yes, I am going to stay. Do you know why I'm going to stay? Because this club has a future and that future is all of us" (MARCA, 5/21). Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín "was able to convince" Sporting Dir Andrea Berta to stay with the club. Paris St. Germain had reportedly offered him a contract worth up to €14M ($15.7M) per season (AS, 5/22).
