Franchise Notes: Arsenal Reduces Price Of Season Ticket Renewals

Arsenal announced a reduction of around 10% "in the price of season ticket renewals for gold members for next season after the club missed out on Champions League football." In a season ticket renewal email, Arsenal said, "The club has always considered that pricing for the Europa League would be different from the Champions League so we have reviewed our approach for next season and have applied a discount on your season ticket for the Europa League element" (London DAILY MAIL, 5/22).

ManU is "not expected to hold an open-top bus parade" if it wins the Europa League. The club will "end the season with three trophies" if it beats Eredivisie side Ajax in Stockholm on Wednesday, adding to the Community Shield and English Football League Cup (ESPN.com, 5/22).

National Rugby League CEO Todd Greenberg "raced" to the defense of the "struggling Warriors," saying that the club "is here to stay." A number of Australia's sports media personalities "launched scathing attacks on the Auckland-based franchise, questioning its place in the NRL." Greenberg said, "Every team has its highs and lows and we would all like to see the Warriors performing at their best. I have no doubt that will happen and in the meantime the Warriors will continue to be an important part of our competition" (NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 5/22).

Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian is "considering the introduction of a safe standing section at Tynecastle." A delegation from the club's operations team spent time analyzing Celtic's standing section ahead of Sunday's final league match at Celtic Park. It is thought the standing section at Tynecastle "could be introduced in the stadium's Gorgie Stand if given the go ahead" (BBC, 5/22).

Serie A side Fiorentina Owner Diego Della Valle admitted "the time has come" for his family to review its ownership of the club. Della Valle "saved Fiorentina from extinction" in '02, but there has been "mounting pressure from fans," accusing the fashion entrepreneur of "lacking ambition in his vision for the Viola." Della Valle said, "The question I'm asking is: where's the fun in all this? I think the time has come to weigh things up" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 5/22).

For the third time this season, the Haas Formula 1 team "updated its primary paint scheme." Owner Gene Haas made his "long-awaited" grid debut in '16 and did so with the "familiar red, white and grey colors that have adorned many of his NASCAR entries over the past two decades." That paint scheme stayed "fairly consistent" over the past year-and-a-half until last week in Spain. There, the two cars ran a "primarily black livery with streaks of red" as the FIA ordered changes to driver identification stickers. For next week and beyond, the team will run a grey and black car with white trim (AUTOWEEK, 5/22).

Barcelona will name its new coach on May 29, two days after the Copa del Rey final, President Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed on Sunday after the club's title chase "came up short." Reports in the Barcelona media last week said that the club "already agreed a two-year deal" with La Liga side Athletic Bilbao Manager Ernesto Valverde. Asked about Valverde, Bartomeu said, "He is a coach who is out of contract in the summer" (ESPN.com, 5/22).
