Asian gaming company Fun88 was named the primary partner of EPL side Newcastle United. As part of a three-year agreement, Fun88 will be featured on the club's black and white stripes, starting with Newcastle's 125th anniversary season. The partnership was officially confirmed in an online video, with former players and members of the current squad displaying the club's '17-18 Puma home kit. Fun88 was founded in '08 and has a significant online following in Asia (Newcastle). In Newcastle, Lee Ryder reported the club has "not gone public" with how much the new sponsorship is worth, but the team's commercial deal "puts them into the top 10 of the Premier League in terms of the size of the deal." Newcastle’s last sponsorship deal with loan company Wonga was worth £24M over five years, with Fun88 believed to be "going beyond that figure." The club’s contract with Fun88 also included an arrangement not to rename St. James’ Park, meaning a "similar controversy" caused when the stadium was renamed the Sports Direct Arena in '11 was not repeated. Newcastle also "held talks" with Newcastle Brown Ale and another U.K.-based firm (CHRONICLE LIVE, 5/15).
