Football Notes: ManU's Ed Woodward To Field Calls From Investors Over Pogba Transfer

ManU Exec Vice-Chair Ed Woodward will "field calls from investors on Tuesday," less than a week after the publication of claims that agent Mino Raiola earned £41M from the world-record £89.3M transfer of Paul Pogba from Juventus to Old Trafford (ESPN.com, 5/15).

Premier League side West Bromwich Albion will "investigate crowd disturbances" during Chelsea's title-clinching 1-0 win at The Hawthorns on Friday after nine fans were arrested. Some West Brom supporters "ignored a warning not to sell tickets in the home section to opposing fans." Club CEO Martin Goodman said that any supporters "who could be traced selling on tickets to visiting supporters faced sanctions" (BBC, 5/15).

Bundesliga side Schalke ultras called UEFA "mafia" during a large-scale "choreo" celebration on the 20th anniversary of its 1997 UEFA Cup triumph. On Saturday, during the club's last home match of the season, Schalke ultras "unfurled seven banners across all four stands of the Veltins Arena," including a 3D replica of the trophy which had the word "mafia" in place of UEFA. The €119,991.45 ($131,709) choreo was paid in full by the club's ultras (ESPN.com, 5/15).

Serie A side Inter Milan supporters left to "go to eat" after criticizing their club's "pitiful" season. The club is in eighth place in the league, having won none of its last eight league matches. The main protest banner read: "Since you don't deserve our support, today we're saluting you and going to eat" (London TELEGRAPH, 5/15).

Zimbabwean football fans took to social media to "vent their spleen following the abandonment of the country's biggest derby on Sunday." The Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League match between Highlanders and Dynamos, the "most famous and successful" clubs, was "called off just before the break." The match commissioner "took the decision with the score at 1-1 as he feared for the safety of one of the assistant referees at a packed Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo" (BBC, 5/15).

Scottish Premiership side Rangers' youngsters "will face the best European football has to offer next season after opting out" of the Scottish Professional Football League's Development League for '17-18. The club obtained permission from the SPFL to be "excused from the league," and will instead "tackle" a games program against the likes of ManU, Man City, Chelsea and Bayern Munich (SCOTSMAN, 5/15).

The German Football League (DFL) opened an investigation into 2nd Bundesliga side Dynamo Dresden "after the club's players marched on the field as soldiers and made a military salute to the fans, who were dressed in camouflage." The incident followed a 4-3 win over Karlsruher "and was followed by violent behavior by Dresden fans, which left 36 people injured" (DPA, 5/15).
