GIOVANNI MALAGÒ was re-elected Thursday to his second term as president of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI). Malagò "got 67 of the 75 votes available." He said, "Over the last four years I have defended sport, let's fly high" (ANSA, 5/11). ... DENIS MASSEGLIA won a third consecutive term as president of the French Olympic Committee on Thursday. Masseglia was "elected for another four-year mandate in the first round of voting," ahead of French Fencing Federation President ISABELLE LAMOUR and former Olympic judo champion DAVID DOUILLET (AP, 5/11). ... League Championship side Birmingham City appointed former Real Madrid scout JEFF VETERE as director of football as the club looks to "remodel" its recruitment strategy. The news was announced on the same day HARRY REDKNAPP agreed to a one-year deal to remain Birmingham's manager (SKY SPORTS, 5/10). ... Formula 1 announced the appointment of LUCA COLAJANNI and JOANNE REVILL to senior positions within its newly-created communications department. As senior communications officer, Colajanni will attend all F1 races to oversee communications functions. Colajanni previously worked as a press officer at three consecutive FIFA World Cups in the '90s, as well as for the Rome '91 FIBA European championship. Revill was promoted to communications officer, after joining F1 in '01 as a producer. She will be responsible for running the F1 press office (F1).

COACHES/MANAGERS: The UAE FA confirmed former Argentina coach EDGARDO BAUZA as the new manager of the UAE national team. The 59-year-old Argentine signed a contract "believed to be" two years in duration on Thursday. The two-time Copa Libertadores winner, "most known for tempting LIONEL MESSI out of international retirement," replaces MAHDI ALI (GULF NEWS, 5/11). ... BARRY GRAY has been named the new manager of Irish Premiership club Cliftonville. He succeeds GERARD LYTTLE. Gray joins the north Belfast side "on a rolling contract." His backroom team will include HARRY FAY and STEPHEN SMALL (BBC, 5/10). ... La Liga side Valencia confirmed the appointment of MARCELINO as its new head coach for next season. The club has "endured an underwhelming campaign," having "flirted with relegation" under PAKO AYESTARAN before he was sacked and replaced by CESARE PRANDELLI, who quit in December "after a row with the board over signings" (GOAL, 5/11).
