League Notes: UK Sport Under Scrutiny Over GB Taekwondo Complaints

UK Sport is "under further scrutiny after its treatment of complaints about GB Taekwondo was questioned." Concerns from English Institute of Sport medical staff over coaches' practices "led to a review" in '15. Medical staff working with GB Taekwondo reportedly "raised concerns to UK Sport with regard to concussion, weight loss and training loads," including claims that athletes were "asked to train in saunas" (BBC, 5/10).

The first-division teams of the inaugural B.League season "raised their average attendance numbers in the regular season" by 32% from last year (based on figures from bj-league and National Basketball League, which merged to form the B.League). The first division had 2,777 fans per game in the inaugural season, "which kicked off last fall and wrapped up last Sunday" (JAPAN TIMES, 5/10).

A basketball initiative that draws young players from Cyprus' Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides "provides a welcome glimmer of hope." The PeacePlayers, one of a number of offshoots of an int'l group that "uses sport to build trust in divided communities," has "ballooned since it was set up" in '06. It now has more than 250 players and 12 teams that play all over the island (REUTERS, 5/9).

Cricket Australia announced the Women's National Cricket League schedule for '17-18, with this year's competition to be a split tournament. The WNCL will be played over three weekend rounds starting in October (CA).
