Football Notes: League Two Club Chair Attacks Premier League Over Huge Contracts

League Two side Accrington Stanley Chair Andy Holt launched a "scathing attack" on the Premier League over the size of contracts paid to top-flight players and their agents. He "took to Twitter in response to newspaper reports" claiming Zlatan Ibrahimovic is paid over £350,000 ($452,800) per week by ManU, and that agent Mino Raiola received £41M ($53M) from the deal that brought Paul Pogba to ManU. Across a series of tweets, Holt accused the Premier League of "destroying the game" by allowing such wealth to accumulate at its top end (PA, 5/9).

Canada will be getting a new professional football league "after the Canadian Soccer Association unanimously approved the Canadian Premier League over the weekend." The proposed league "already has two founding cities," with Hamilton, Ontario, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, having received CSA membership approval alongside that of the league. Both founding cities are "being headed by leaders of their respective Canadian Football League franchises" (GOAL, 5/8).

South Korea FA President Chung Mong-gyu "won a seat on FIFA's main decision-making body." Chung was elected by acclamation to a FIFA Council membership "along with Mariano Araneta of the Philippines and Zhang Jian of China at the Asian Football Confederation Congress in Manama, Bahrain, on Monday." They were "each given a two-year term" (YONHAP, 5/9).
