Franchise Notes: Newport County Stands To Lose £400,000 If Relegated

League Two side Newport County Dir Gavin Foxall said that the club "would stand to lose" around £400,000 ($516,160) if it is relegated this season. The club is two points clear of the relegation places with two games to go and could secure its survival if it wins at Carlisle United on Saturday. Foxall said, "As a revenue, the club turnover is about £2M ($2.6M) a year" (BBC, 4/27).

Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande could have to play matches behind closed doors and face a fine of at least $12,000 after "being charged with discrimination and spectator misconduct by the Asian Football Confederation" for the offensive banner that "marred" its win over Eastern in Hong Kong (SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST, 4/27).

Korea Baseball Organization team Doosan Bears signed a contract with a pitcher who had been "investigated by local prosecutors for illegal gambling last year." The club said that it inked a contract with Jin Ya-gob for the '17 season on April 17. The KBO said that it "already notified the Bears' signing to nine other clubs last week." Jin was investigated by prosecutors last year for placing a 6M won bet on an illegal gambling website in '11 (YONHAP, 4/27).
