Flamengo Responsible For Two Highest-Grossing Games In Brazil In '17

According to the latest sales figures for the 60 Brazilian football teams that compete in the country's top three tiers, Rio de Janeiro-based Brasileiro side Flamengo "has the distinction of having the two highest grossing games" of '17 so far, according to Nelson Belen of the RIO TIMES. The top grossing game of the year was the Copa Libertadores match between Flamengo and Argentine side San Lorenzo on March 8, which Flamengo won 4-0. The match, Flamengo's first of the year at the Maracanã, earned R$3.69M ($1.16M), with an average ticket price of R$68 ($21.41). In second place, Flamengo's 2-1 win over Paranaense on April 12, also in the Copa Libertadores and at the Maracanã, earned R$3.33M ($1.05M), with an average ticket price of R$62 ($19.52). São Paulo clubs dominate the remainder of the top 10, with "teams from Brazil’s financial capital making up the next six highest earning games." The third and fourth-highest grossing games were played last weekend in the semifinals of the Campeonato Paulista regional tournament. Palmeiras' 1-0 win over Ponte Preta at Allianz Parque on Saturday drew R$2.91M ($920,000), with an average ticket price of R$74 ($23.30). In terms of overall gross income and attendance for the year, Palmeiras "topped the list" with gross income of R$18.4M ($5.79M) on average paid attendance of 30,285 per game (RIO TIMES, 4/27).
