Premiership Rugby Side Saracens Given Permission To Build New $26M Stand

Premiership rugby side Saracens received "planning permission" to build a £20M ($25.8M) stand at Allianz Park, according to Chris Jones of the London EVENING STANDARD. The club plans to replace the aging West Stand next year "but the overall capacity of the ground will not significantly increase, only rising by 500 to 10,500." Chair Nigel Wray and part-Owner Johann Rupert will fund the upgrade following the £20M "they put together to build the East Stand." Wray: "I do not believe you can be at the top of the sport in Europe in five years unless you have a much better ground than we have. We have to improve everything. Once you stop improving, you have had it." There is a "provision for the capacity to be increased in the temporary stands at each end of the ground," allowing 15,000 fans for one major match each season (EVENING STANDARD, 4/27).
