Media Notes: Twitter To Livestream CONCACAF Champions League Final

Twitter reached a deal with CONCACAF to livestream the final match of the '16-17 CONCACAF Champions League. Wednesday's match featuring Liga MX clubs Tigres UANL and Pachuca will be "available to logged-in and logged-out Twitter users" in countries including the U.S. and Canada. A 30-minute pregame show starting at 9:30pm EST "will be included" in the stream (AD WEEK, 4/25).

Twitter reported Q1 revenue of $548M, "down 8% year-over-year but topping Wall Street expectations" of $512M. The company said that it "streamed more than 800 hours of live premium video" in the quarter from "content partners across more than 450 events reaching 45 million unique viewers." Of those 800 hours, "51% were sports" (VARIETY, 4/26).

According to research carried out by Gfk for Spain's Coalition of Content Creators & Industries and La Liga, during '16, 4.13 billion piracy occurrences "were registered in Spain," 4.2% less than in '15. Such access to pirated content "led to the industry losing" €23.3B, 3.2% less than a year before. This is the "first time piracy has fallen in Spain since stronger anti-piracy measures were implemented and more affordable and convenient distribution platforms increased their penetration." According to the report, films (32%) and series (27%) are the most popular pirated content, while illegal access to sports content (10%) showed a "significant drop" (RAPID TV NEWS, 4/26).

Real Madrid launched a new official app "targeted at the Chinese market." The club released details of the new app at an event in Beijing. The app will "give fans in China access to exclusive video and interactive content, interviews and match footage." Additional features will include a membership feature and an online shopping service (SOCCEREX, 4/26).

Sky appointed Adam & Eve/DDB "to handle its sports account after a competitive pitch process." Adam & Eve/DDB began working with Sky last year after being appointed to handle digital and social for Sky Mobile. The pay-TV company's agency roster also includes Brothers & Sisters, FCB Inferno and WCRS (CAMPAIGN LIVE, 4/26).

Eleven Sports has been confirmed as the host broadcaster for a La Liga Legends match between former players from the Spanish league and the Polish national team. The match, which will be co-organized in partnership with La Liga and Legia Warsaw, will be held at Legia Warsaw's Marshal J. Pilsudski City Stadium on June 9 (Eleven Sports).

Eurosport signed Boris Becker to front its coverage in Germany for the French Open and the US Open. The six-time grand slam winner also worked for Eurosport during January's Australian Open. In Melbourne, Eurosport Germany launched "Matchball Becker" -- a daily show presented by Becker alongside Matthias Stach (Eurosport).
