MICHAEL COLLIER was appointed by McLaren Applied Technologies to establish the McLaren Human Performance Centre of Excellence. The center will be the first of its kind for the global sports and technology brand, based at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England. Collier will lead the development in his new role as head of human performance, reporting to Chief Medical Officer Dr. ADAM HILL, and working alongside Motorsport Dir RODI BASSO (McLaren). ... CARLOS NUZMAN was appointed a member of the IOC Coordination Commission for Tokyo 2020. Nuzman is the president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) and was chair of the organizing committee for last year's Olympic and Paralympic Games (INSIDE THE GAMES, 4/24). ... Formula 1 announced the appointment of YATH GANGAKUMARAN as global head of strategy. He will be responsible for advising on strategic decisions across all commercial operations, reporting to Managing Dir, Commercial Operations SEAN BRATCHES. Gangakumaran joins from Sky Sports, where he has worked with the strategy team since April '14 (F1). ... Lancashire County Cricket Club announced DAVID HODGKISS as chair. He succeeds MICHAEL CAIRNS, who announced on Monday that he would retire after nine years as chair (LCCC). ... League Championship side Leeds United announced IVAN BRAVO joined the club's board of directors with immediate effect. Bravo previously served as director of strategy at Real Madrid and director general at the Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence in Qatar (Leeds United). ... NEIL GOULDEN resigned from the Horserace Betting Levy Board to concentrate on his position as chair of the project group "seeking to set up a pool betting operation owned by Britain's racecourses." Goulden joined the HBLB in Dec. '15 as one of two government-appointed members along with former Newmarket MP RICHARD SPRING. However, with the racecourse pool betting project "aiming to be up and running" when Betfred's exclusive license runs out in July '18, Goulden felt he "could not do both jobs" (RACING POST, 4/25).
COACHES/MANAGERS: Former Iran coach RAÚL LOZANO was named the first foreign head coach of the Chinese men's volleyball team. Lozano, who led Iran to fifth place at the 2016 Rio Olympics, replaced XIE GUOCHEN, who was "sacked after the Chinese team failed to book a berth in the Rio Olympics" (XINHUA, 4/25).
