BBC equestrian commentator MIKE TUCKER will "retire from broadcasting after next month's Badminton Horse Trials." The 73-year-old joined the BBC in '77 and "took over" as lead equestrian commentator in '92. He worked for the BBC at six Olympic Games (BBC, 4/24). ... Czech footballer FRANTISEK RAJTORAL died, aged 31. Rajtoral played 14 times for his country and "was part of the squad" that reached the Euro 2012 quarterfinals. Turkish media reported Rajtoral was "found hanged at his home" after Süper Lig side Gaziantepspor "alerted authorities to his absence on Sunday" (BBC, 4/23). ... World No. 1 women's golfer LYDIA KO "appears to have found a new caddie." She "plans to tee it up" at this week's Vounteers of America Texas Shootout with PETER GODFREY. Godfrey was voted the 2017 Caddie of the Year by his LPGA peers at the HSBC Women's Champions in March. He was on HA NA JANG's bag at the time (NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 4/24). ... Liga MX side Veracruz Owner FIDEL KURI GRAJALES registered as a candidate to become mayor of Veracruz. He will start his campaign on May 2, ahead of the elections which will take place June 4 (MILENIO DIGITAL, 4/23). ... N'GOLO KANTE won the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award for '16-17. The Chelsea midfielder, 26, beat EDEN HAZARD, HARRY KANE, ROMELU LUKAKU, ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC and ALEXIS SANCHEZ in the vote by his fellow players. Tottenham's DELE ALLI won the young player prize for the second successive year. Man City's LUCY BRONZE won the Women's Player of the Year award. Birmingham's JESS CARTER was named the Women's Young Player of the Year (BBC, 4/23).
