Event Notes: AFL Side Essendon Criticized For Anzac Day Price Hike

Australian Football League fans criticized Essendon and the AFL after ticket prices for next week’s Anzac Day game were increased by up to 80%. The Bombers "have used the AFL’s contentious dynamic pricing," which permits home clubs to set their own prices to list some level four seats at A$72 ($54.20), up from A$40 in '16. It comes amid "renewed calls" for the Anzac Day clash to be made a “declared event’’ to punish scalpers as online resale sites list tickets to Tuesday’s match for up to A$458 ($345) (HERALD SUN, 4/20).

Man City
is "so far yet to sell" its ticket allocation for the FA Cup semifinal against Arsenal at Wembley, the club confirmed. Man City took up its full allocation of 33,000 seats for Sunday's match, "but due to a number of factors" the club is "yet to sell them all." Supporters "have been put off by the Sunday afternoon kick-off time as it would involve getting back to Manchester late on Sunday night" (SKY SPORTS, 4/20).

Australian Football League side Port Adelaide's historic game in China -- the first regular season AFL match outside Australia and New Zealand -- has sold out. The remaining tickets went on sale on Thursday afternoon at 2pm, and were sold within the first hour. Over 5,000 Port Adelaide supporters are expected to make the trip to Shanghai (Port Adelaide).
