Ligue 1 Side Bastia To Close Eastern Stand In Response To Match-Ending Incidents

Two days after the incidents that led to Olympique Lyonnais and Bastia’s Ligue 1 match to be abandoned after halftime, Bastia has “taken further measures by closing the Eastern Stand as a precaution,” according to L’ÉQUIPE. In "an effort to prevent similar actions," the club will close the Eastern Stand, where members of the Bastia 1905 supporters' group invaded the pitch and attacked several OL players. Bastia is also issuing a stadium ban "for all fans that invaded the pitch during Sunday’s match" and will redevelop the Eastern Stand to "maximize the security for the Armand-Cesari Stadium." Bastia is scheduled to appear before the French Professional Football League (LFP) disciplinary council in Paris on Thursday. The council could order the next two Bastia matches to be played “behind closed doors,” or at a neutral ground. The “risk of a point deduction also hangs over the club,” which would move it closer to relegation as it currently sits last in Ligue 1 (L’ÉQUIPE, 4/18).
