Liverpool To Play A-League Side Sydney FC At ANZ Stadium Next Month

Liverpool is "set for a showdown" with A-League side Sydney FC next month, according to Ray Gatt of THE AUSTRALIAN. A deal is "close to being clinched" for the two sides to meet at ANZ Stadium at the end of the Premier League season. It will be the first time Liverpool will have played in Sydney. The club drew almost 96,000 to the Melbourne Cricket Ground when it beat Melbourne Victory 2-0 in '13, then "attracted a record crowd of 53,000" when it beat Adelaide United 2-0 at Adelaide Oval in '15. It is expected that the game against Sydney FC "will sell out" the 83,000-capacity ANZ Stadium. Liverpool Manager Jürgen Klopp will "use the trip as a reward for what has so far been a decent season," though it will be unlikely he will "parade any new signings" given reports that club owner Fenway Sports Group has "committed to giving the manager one of the biggest open cheque books in its history" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 4/6).
