Event Notes: Indonesia VP Says Asian Games Prep Will Be Done By End Of This Year

Indonesia VP Jusuf Kalla said that the country "hopes to complete preparations" to host the 2018 Asian Games by the end of this year, "shrugging off concerns over a corruption probe and construction delays." Indonesia faces "huge" challenges in organizing the multi-sport event, particularly coordination of government agencies, the Olympic Council of Asia said last month. Kalla: "We are optimistic we will finish the main venues by the end of the year" (REUTERS, 4/3).

Vivendi announced it joined the group of companies supporting France's bid to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup. The winner will be announced on Nov. 15. Vivendi-owned Canal+ is the leading French rugby channel with the widest offering available on TV (Vivendi). 

The Int'l Equestrian Federation (FEI) signed a four-year agreement with Carlow, Ireland-based EquiRatings which will see the organizations "working together on risk management initiatives." EquiRatings is an Irish start-up "dedicated to data science and analytics in equestrianism" (IRISH TIMES, 4/4).

Video game developer Blizzard is opening the Blizzard eStadium in Taipei, Taiwan. The arena seats up to 250 fans and has been "compared to the Gfinity Arena in London." The Blizzard eStadium will be a "destination for fans" with its first competition being held on April 8, the Overwatch Pacific Championship. The studio-based league will "run for eleven weeks and feature eight teams from Taiwan, Japan, Australia, and Thailand" (ESPORTS OBSERVER, 4/4).
