Barcelona's GERARD PIQUÉ revealed that he is working on a football-related esports project called eFootball.Pro, which plans to "create the future of football in eSports." Piqué said in February that he was "keen to enter the world of esports," but instead of investing in an already established organization, "he wanted to be head of his own project." The "initial information on the project is scarce" (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 3/27). ... Nippon Professional Baseball announced "the return of KYOSUKE TAKAGI, found guilty of gambling, to Japanese professional baseball on Monday," when the pitcher's former club, Yomiuri Giants, signed him to a developmental contract. Takagi was handed the suspension on March 22, 2016 after he was found to have "bet on a handful of baseball games at the urging of a Giants teammate." He was "immediately fired" by the Giants (KYODO, 3/27). ... Cricketer SHAUN TAIT, one of the fastest bowlers to play for Australia, "retired from cricket due to a chronic elbow injury." The South Australian represented his country in all three formats, playing three Tests, 35 one-day internationals and 21 Twenty20 matches for Australia (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 3/27). ... A former member of Ghana’s national football team, GERARD NUS, ended his sit-in as the country’s FA “settled his bonuses.” He said that the matter is “now over despite not being paid in full.” He had been “refusing to leave his Accra hotel since the end of the Africa Cup of Nations in early February” (BBC, 3/27).

GETTING PAID: For the first time, Portuguese int'l CRISTIANO RONALDO "topped" Argentina's LIONEL MESSI as the highest-paid player in the world in '16-17. Messi's teammate and Brazil int'l NEYMAR came in third. For coaches, ManU Manager JOSÉ MOURINHO "still reigns" (FRANCE FOOTBALL, 3/27).
