League Notes: Report Endorses AFL-ASADA Joint Investigation

The decision to hold a joint investigation with the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority into the "biggest sports scandal in Australian history has been fully endorsed" in a special report sent to Australian Football League clubs. The "long-awaited findings of the review into the joint AFL/ASADA investigation of Essendon’s illegal supplements program recommend future joint probes with the anti-doping agency where appropriate." The review "also established concrete role definitions" for the CEO, who is a commission member, and the commission and its chair, in future investigations (THE AUSTRALIAN, 3/27).

Frankie Fredericks "temporarily stepped down from his role" as a member of the IAAF Council, according to IAAF President Sebastian Coe. Coe confirmed the former Namibian sprinter had not resigned completely but had "decided to step away from all this as he needs time to sort all this." The IOC Ethics Commission is "looking into payments" a company linked to the four-time Olympic Silver Medalist received three days before Rio de Janeiro was awarded the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in '09 (INSIDE THE GAMES, 3/26).
