Dragons CEO Warned To Expect 'Rough Ride' During Meeting With Newport RFC Fans

Pro12 side Dragons CEO Stuart Davies has been warned he is in for "a very rough ride" when he meets Newport RFC supporters at Rodney Parade, according to Simon Thomas of WALES ONLINE. Davies will hold a Q&A session with Newport RFC fans over the proposed Welsh Rugby Union takeover of the Dragons and the ground. He is set to face "strong questioning from supporters concerned over the long-term future of Newport RFC at what is likely to be a lively meeting." The takeover has been ratified by the boards of the WRU, Newport RFC and the Dragons, with the WRU scheduled to take control of the region and buy Rodney Parade by July 1. The deal has to be approved by 75% of Newport RFC shareholders, with an EGM "expected to be held next month." Supporters group Friends of Newport Rugby Secretary Kev Jarvis said, "It’s going to be a very rough ride for him. He is ready for that. I think he knows what is coming." Jarvis said that the "key concern is what the future would hold for Premiership club Newport in the case of either a yes or a no vote." He said, "If the WRU takeover goes ahead, there is no guarantee how long either team can play at Rodney Parade. Nothing at all" (WALES ONLINE, 3/27).
