Tottenham Director Reveals New Stadium Cost Is Up To £800M Due To Brexit

Tottenham Dir Donna Cullen said that the cost of the club's stadium project "has increased substantially due to Brexit," according to Tom Collomosse of the London EVENING STANDARD. Tottenham is due to move into its new 61,000-seat ground during the '18-19 season, with £800M ($973.2M) the "most recent estimate for the final bill." That is "double the figure that Tottenham originally hoped the project would cost." Replying to a fan’s inquiry, Cullen wrote, "Brexit has added a straight 20 per cent on costs for foreign goods due to the exchange rate, overtime working and increased construction costs similarly. It is worth remembering that the original cost quoted for the stadium (£400m) was some seven years ago. This new ‘estimated’ figure (£800m) relates predominantly to the stadium with some elements of substructure for the other builds, particularly the Tottenham Experience." Meanwhile, the club has still not confirmed where it will be playing its home matches next season. It has until the end of this month to activate its option with the FA to "stage all home fixtures at Wembley next season" (EVENING STANDARD, 3/8).
