Premier League Clubs To Earn Up To Additional $12.4M From Shirt Sleeve Sponsors

Premier League clubs could be set to earn up to £10M ($12.4M) more from sponsorship after talks "to add a sponsor to the sleeves of shirts opened ahead of next season," according to Harry Slavin of the London DAILY MAIL. Sporting Group Int'l "brokered a deal" with eight top-flight teams to sell the rights for their kit's sleeve to the same sponsor. The space is valued at "around a fifth of that of a main kit sponsor," so clubs such as ManU, which receives £47M ($58.3M)-a-year from Chevrolet to be on its shirts, could see a further £10M invested in the club. SGI CEO Adrian Wright said, "It's the first time in EPL history the sleeve can be sold and, hopefully, it will be the first time that one brand has been seen on multiple shirts from potentially eight to 10 clubs." There are at least two top-flight clubs that "will not be able to participate in the deal for next season," due to current deals with main sponsors banning the appearance of a secondary brand on the kit (DAILY MAIL, 2/28).
