The "vast majority of clubs and states have privately indicated their support" for Australian Rugby League Commission Chair John Grant in recent weeks but he "still faces an anxious wait" on Tuesday to hear "whether those in his corner have submitted the votes necessary to save his position." A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday to vote on Grant’s post as chair, a "hangover from the fractious talks held late last year to determine funding" for '18 and beyond. As part of their "leverage in those talks," the clubs "submitted proxy votes to have Grant removed as chair." It "is understood several clubs" have already replied to the National Rugby League with their support for Grant (THE AUSTRALIAN, 2/28).
World Rugby is considering whether to "review the laws governing the breakdown in light of the tactics used by Italy against England on Sunday." England Manager Eddie Jones "was furious with the tactics and called for World Rugby to revise the laws," and it is understood the sport's global governing body is "assessing whether it needs to act." Jones was "highly critical" of Italy's game plan, stating, "If that's rugby, I'm going to retire" (PA, 2/27).
Former rugby league "hard man" Mark Geyer said that he would "never consider suing" the NRL or any of his former clubs over the "number of concussions he suffered in his career." His comments came after it was revealed on Sunday that former Newcastle winger James McManus had launched legal action against the Knights. Geyer said that while he "respected those who wished to take legal action," he would "never consider doing likewise." He said, "I don’t want any compensation from the game. They gave me everything I’ve got" (AAP, 2/26).
