Football Notes: Danish FA No Longer Interested In Co-Hosting Euro 2024, 2028

The Danish FA (DBU) confirmed it is "no longer interested" in co-hosting the European Championship in either '24 or '28 with Nordic neighbors Norway, Sweden and Finland. Denmark, which will host three games at Euro 2020, "was not the first to pull out, however." Norway "did so last week and Sweden then withdrew on Sunday." Danish FA Chair Jesper Møller clarified that "while the federation would pursue plans to host European women’s and youth tournaments, it was not ready to host a major men’s tournament." However, he said "that might change in the future" (CPH POST, 2/27).

A spokesperson for China's General Administration of Sports said that China "should rely on its own efforts and intelligence" to find the appropriate way of developing football instead of just buying overseas clubs. The spokesperson said, "China's football development should depend on our own efforts and intelligence, the road of simply relying on others is blocked. ... Only with long and persistent efforts can we make achievements" (XINHUA, 2/27).

Argentina will play a friendly to inaugurate Moscow's renovated Luzhniki Stadium, which will host the final of the 2018 World Cup. Moscow City Council Head Of Sports Nikolái Guliáev confirmed the news and said that "the likely date of the friendly" would be Nov. 11 (TÉLAM, 2/27).
