Ligue 1 Side Olympique De Marseille Owner Reaffirms Commitment To Spend On Stars

Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille Owner Frank McCourt said that "he will add major stars to the squad" if it helps the club toward his "ultimate aim" of winning the Champions League, according to Ian Holyman of ESPN.com. McCourt, who completed his purchase of OM in October, saw his club "dismantled" 5-1 at home by Paris St. Germain on Sunday. The American businessman has "vowed to spend" €200M ($212M) on "strengthening the OM squad in the first four years of his tenure." Speaking before the defeat to PSG, he said, "We're really very interested in the idea of bringing in a great talent, a star. But I don't want to bring in a star just for the name. That strategy doesn't work in sport" (ESPN.com, 2/27).
