Six Nations Execs Warned Reform Stance Could Affect Appeal To Sponsors

Six Nations execs have been warned they are "jeopardising their hopes" of securing a £100M ($125.4M) sponsorship deal because of their "archaic stance on reform," according to Nik Simon of the London DAILY MAIL. Despite Georgia being ranked above Italy in the world rankings, CEO John Feehan said that he "will not consider promotion and relegation" until at least '27. His claims prompted an "angry backlash" toward the private members club. Feehan is currently searching for a replacement sponsor for RBS, which is withdrawing after 15 years, and "could have to lower" his £100M price tag. Int'l ad agency M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment Global CEO Steve Martin said, "You need to move with the times and have an open mind for change. To rule out promotion and relegation, teams like Georgia, is going to dilute the value of the competition. ... Sport needs jeopardy. Are fans going to be excited about watching England versus Italy on Sunday" (DAILY MAIL, 2/22).
