Barcelona Delegation Visits China To Present Partnership With Mission Hills

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu, club ambassador Ronaldinho and CEO Óscar Grau visited the Chinese island of Hainan to begin an institutional visit to China, according to Moisés Llorens of AS. On Friday, the club will present its agreement with Mission Hills Group. Bartomeu said, "We are very happy to work with Mission Hills Group. Everything they are doing through sport in Hainan is incredible. They chose Barça and we chose them. ... It is very important for Barcelona that we are known in China, not only as a football club, but as a school. We will try to teach the children of China our football and our style of play" (AS, 2/23). Bartomeu and Mission Hills Group President Ken Chu held a discussion with around 15 media companies to explain Barça’s project in China. Bartomeu said that the partnership will help to develop football in Asia, increase Barça’s brand value in this strategic territory and attract new regional sponsors. Bartomeu also stressed that China is a key market for the club due to its potential and the Chinese government’s plan to turn it into a global footballing superpower by '50 (Barcelona).
