Australian Football League May Seek New Revenue Deal For AFLW Broadcasts

The Australian Football League "may go back" to its TV broadcasters "to seek a new deal to broadcast" AFL Women's matches, according to 3AW. 3AW commentator Caroline Wilson said that the success of the women's competition "stunned everyone." Wilson added, "For the first three weeks, it is quadrupling the A-League ratings on Foxtel. They're going to have to pay." Wilson said that the broadcast rights for AFLW matches were "given away for free." Wilson: "The games need to cost the networks a bit more if they are going to continue to rate the way they are, and the women are going to have to be paid more" (3AW, 2/22).
