Facility Notes: Lewisham To Sanction Probe Into Millwall Property Developer

Lewisham Council was expected to "give the go-ahead" for an independent inquiry into "inaccurate claims of funding by a property developer at the heart of a land deal" which threatened League One side Millwall's existence in the borough. Council documents recommend "that an independent inquiry be established into matters related to the compulsory purchase order (CPO) of land at New Bermondsey/ Surrey Canal." The documents recommend a Queen's Counsel be appointed with a budget of £500,000 ($623,000). The move would be "welcomed" by Millwall (SKY SPORTS, 2/22).

The total cost of the Indonesian Sports Institute, previously known as the Olympic Center, "might soar" by more than 60% from current projections, an official at the Ministry of Youth & Sports revealed. The institute is intended as a "high-performance center where elite athletes in Indonesia's most successful sports can receive intensive training" to help them achieve better results in int'l competitions. The official said, "The projected cost of the entire complex was initially Rp 600 billion ($44.9M), but it could reach Rp 1 trillion ($74.7M) after a further detailed calculation" (JAKARTA GLOBE, 2/22).

The Qatar Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) announced the main contractor for the 2022 World Cup stadium being built in Doha's Al Thumama district. Qatari construction company AlJaber Engineer and Turkish firm Tekfen Construction were confirmed as joint-venture partners. The stadium is located in an area of 515,400 square meters that "already comprises four outdoor training pitches and office facilities" currently used by the Qatar FA Technical Committee. The stadium will have a "reduced capacity" of 20,000 seats in its post-tournament "legacy mode" as part of the SC's modular stadium legacy plans (THE PENINSULA, 2/22).
