Event Notes: Third Edition Of Tie Break Tens To Take Place In Madrid

A third edition of Tie Break Tens, the "quick-fire tie-break tennis format," will take place in Madrid in May, with men’s and women’s events "running side-by-side," a new "knock-out format." Five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova will be part of a field of 16 players. The event will take place on May 4 at the Caja Magica, in partnership with the organizers of the Madrid Open. A prize money pot of $500,000 "will be on offer, split equally between the men’s and women’s winners," with $100,000 of the total going to charity (TENNIS TOUR TALK, 2/21).

FIBA Americas confirmed Buenos Aires as host city of the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2017. The event, formerly known as the FIBA Americas Women's Championship, will be held from Aug. 7-13 and will award three spots to the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 in Spain (FIBA).

Fir Park
has been announced as the venue for the IRN-BRU Cup final between Scottish Championship sides Dundee United and St. Mirren on March 25. The game will kick off at 12:30pm and will be live on BBC Alba. It is the fifth time the Challenge Cup Final will be hosted at the 13,750-capacity ground (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 2/22).

The Moyvalley Hotel & Golf Resort will host this year's Irish PGA Championship, which will take place at the Twin Oaks Championship Course in June. The tournament "has moved to a prime date in the golfing calendar," from June 22-25, and will feature a prize fund of €30,000 ($31,700) (RTÉ, 2/22).

More than 1,000 London schools have requested tickets for students for the World Para Athletics Championships following the Schools Tickets offer backed by London Mayor Sadiq Khan. Athletes will be supported by at least 90,000 school-aged spectators this summer (World Para Athletics).
