Everton teamed up with The Open ahead of the 146th staging of the Championship at Royal Birkdale in July. The agreement is a first between a Premier League club and The Open. To launch the link-up, Everton fans purchasing a ticket to The Open between Tuesday and Feb. 28 using the online promo code 146thOpenEve will receive a voucher for an exclusive Open Championship cap. The agreement will see Everton and The Open deliver exclusive content to fans in the build-up to the Championship (
Everton). THE DRUM's Tony Connelly reported as part of the tie-up, the Claret Jug trophy tour will stop by Everton’s USM Finch Farm training ground this month and Goodison Park stadium later in the season. The collaboration will allow the club to "take advantage of the marketing platform, which the hugely popular golf championship offers, and tap into the popularity of golf" among Everton fans. In addition to the partnership with The Open, Everton’s recent commercial activity saw it secure a £75M ($93.5M) commercial boost through a new shirt sponsorship agreement and
naming rights deal for the club’s training ground. The "shirt sponsor has yet to be confirmed," but Everton CEO Robert Elstone last month told shareholders that the club was "expecting a 300% increase in the value of our shirt sponsors and we will be announcing shortly" (
THE DRUM, 2/21).
