Scottish Premiership side Celtic "announced proposals for a new hotel and museum outside Parkhead." The Scottish club will "make an application notice" to Glasgow City Council over the proposed redevelopment of the Celtic Park area. Celtic currently has a "superstore" and ticketing office outside of the stadium but the new proposals "would include facilities for supporters to stay close to the arena on matchday" (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 2/21).
A man-made surf park is to be created in Edinburgh "under plans which would see a disused quarry pit turned into an artificial lake with waves controlled at the flick of a switch." Developers are giving city residents the chance to take a look at blueprints for the attraction -- the "first of its kind in Scotland" -- later this month. If the proposals are approved, the "disused" Craigpark Quarry pit near Ratho "would be transformed into a multi-million pound surfing and leisure facility called Wavegarden" (SCOTSMAN, 2/21).
U.K.-based specialist broadcaster Sports Information Services agreed to terms on "the purchase of two greyhound stadia in the northeast from William Hill for an undisclosed price." The deal, thought to be worth more than £10M ($12.5M), comprises Sunderland and Newcastle greyhound stadia, which were acquired by the betting group in '02 and '03, respectively (LONDON TIMES, 2/21).
