Football Notes: Löw Urges 'Open Mind' About Cutting Int'l Breaks

Germany coach Joachim Löw urged "an open mind" on European Club Association Chair and Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's idea of "cutting the international breaks in a domestic season to two and making them longer." Rummenigge said that the move would "enable national team coaches to spend more concentrated periods with their players." His proposal would not affect the number of domestic fixtures played (ESPN.com, 2/20).

Starting this year, FIFA will grant $1.25M annually to the FA of Indonesia (PSSI) "in a bid to support the development of football in the country." The grant is part of FIFA Forward, a football development scheme, under which financial aid is distributed to 211 members in a four-year cycle, with each country's association receiving $500,000 each year for "administration and governance" and $750,000 for "infrastructure, competitions and women's football." FIFA Forward was launched in '16 under President Gianni Infantino (JAKARTA GLOBE, 2/20).
