Franchise Notes: Real Madrid Loses Libel Case Against Spanish Newspaper As

Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez and his construction company, ACS, "have lost a libel case against Spanish newspaper As and Catalan economist Jose Maria Gay de Liebana." The libel action claimed the "honour" of Perez had been hurt and claimed €100,000 ($105,900) in damages. After "being upheld in a lower court by judge Francisco Serrano Arnal, it was denied by Judge Jose Ignacio Zarzuelo of Madrid's Provincial Court." The judge also ruled that Madrid and ACS must cover the defendants' legal costs (ESPN.com, 2/15).

Belgian Pro League side RSC Anderlecht announced it will be the first Belgian club to sign its own esports gamer. The club will start its own e-division, which will kick off by the end of April. During the weekend of April 29-30, 256 esports players will compete for a place in the final tournament (RSC Anderlecht).

Premier League side Hull City was charged by the FA with "failing to control" its players during Saturday’s loss at Arsenal. Hull’s players surrounded referee Mark Clattenburg after Arsenal fullback Kieran Gibbs was "booked, rather than sent off, for a foul on Lazar Markovic when the Hull winger was clear on goal" (LONDON TIMES, 2/15).
