Event Notes: Newport Gwent Dragons, Newport County Resolve Fixture Clash

Pro12 side Newport Gwent Dragons resolved its "final day of the season Rodney Parade fixture clash" with League Two side Newport County by agreeing to switch its game against Cardiff Blues to "another ground in Gwent." The Dragons and County were each scheduled to play at Rodney Parade at the same time in an "uncanny twist of fate, with no room for manoeuvre to change" kickoff times. County has "primacy of tenure" under English Football League rules, so the Dragons agreed to move. Likely relocation options are Cross Keys' Pandy Park and Ebbw Vale's Eugene Cross Park (WALES ONLINE, 2/15).

Sanya, the "fast-developing" holiday resort and sailing center on Hainan Island in the south of China, has become a first-time team partner and host port for the next two editions of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Clipper Race Founder Robin Knox-Johnston signed the agreement with Sanya at the Sanya Serenity Marina, "where the fleet will be berthed" (ASIA-PACIFIC BOATING, 2/15).

Israel's domestic security service said that it "barred the country's Ironi Nahariya basketball team from playing a Europe Cup match in Turkey," due to "exceptional" safety concerns. Nahariya had been scheduled to play at Gaziantep in a round of 16 second leg game on Feb. 22, after beating the Turkish side 96-75 in Israel. Police in the city last week detained four suspected members of ISIL and seized explosives and weapons intended for a "sensational" attack, Doğan News Agency reported (AFP, 2/15).

FIBA Americas confirmed that Monterrey and Ponce will host the semifinal phase of the Liga de las Americas 2017. The first semifinal group of the continental league will be held from Feb. 24-26 in Monterrey, Mexico, while the second will be played from March 3-5 in Ponce, Puerto Rico (FIBA).
