Football Notes: WADA Disappointed By Lack Of Drug Testing In Scottish Football

WADA said that the lack of testing within Scottish football is "not good news." No tests were carried out in the nine-month period to the end of '16. It followed a decision by UK Anti-Doping "not to fund drugs testing in the Scottish game." WADA President Craig Reedie said, "In my view it is unfortunate if any country which purports to be a serious player in the football world has a gap in its testing program" (BBC, 2/13).

Brazil Manager Tite and members of his backroom staff have "embarked on a week-long tour of Europe to monitor national team players and those on the cusp of selection." Among the matches that Tite and his top assistant, Edu Gasper, will attend are Paris St. Germain's clash with Barcelona and Bayern Munich's duel with Arsenal in the Champions League. Gaspar said, "It's good to reinforce that we don't stop analyzing players" (XINHUA, 2/13).

Serie B President Andrea Abodi announced he plans to run against incumbent Carlo Tavecchio for the presidency of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). The FIGC vote is on March 6. Abodi informed Serie B clubs on Monday that he "plans to step down from his position in order to campaign for the FIGC job" (AP, 2/13).

The FA announced Premier League side West Ham Manager Slaven Bilic has been charged with "improper conduct" for his behavior during Saturday's draw against West Brom. Bilic was "sent off" by referee Michael Oliver after he "angrily threw down" a TV microphone following West Brom's late equalizer (London INDEPENDENT, 2/13).

IN SPAIN: The board of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) agreed to hold a General Assembly on May 22 to elect a president. The decision on the date of the election "comes more than one year after the RFEF initially proposed" that an election take place on April 22, 2016 (EFE, 2/13).

Spain's National Court on Tuesday ruled in favor of the Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) in its conflict with La Liga regarding the "agreed upon 0.5% of revenue from TV rights." La Liga had to pay the AFE €7M ($7.4M), "but did not, as it disagreed with the criteria." The court intervened and La Liga has to immediately pay the sum (AS, 2/14).
