Franchise Notes: Borussia Dortmund Fined For Crowd Trouble Against RB Leipzig

Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund was "slapped" with a €100,000 ($106,000) fine and must close its famous "Yellow Wall" for its upcoming game against Wolfsburg "as punishment for crowd trouble against RB Leipzig." The German FA moved to penalize Dortmund "after Leipzig supporters were attacked on their way to the Westfalenstadion for a Bundesliga game earlier this month." Borussia fans "also lit flares during the game and unfurled banners attacking Leipzig and their association with Austrian energy drink manufacturer Red Bull" (London DAILY MAIL, 2/13).

The Rugby Football Union said that sacked Sale Sharks winger Tom Arscott leaked confidential team information to his brother Luke, who plays for Bristol, "before a match between their Premiership sides." Concluding an investigation triggered by Sale, it found Arscott's behavior had been "inappropriate" and gave him a written warning. The RFU said that the player "discussed tactical information about his side's defence with his brother on the night before a Jan. 1 match that Sale lost 24-23" (REUTERS, 2/13).

Serie A side Inter Milan "opened its fourth football school in Japan" in Fuchu, Tokyo. It will be the first of the training centers to "offer an elite youth teams programme." Opened in conjunction with former Japanese football player Shoji Jo, the center "will be the showpiece of Inter’s Japanese training bases and training methodologies." The Inter Academy Japan project is "now in its fifth year" with centers in Yoyogi, Sagamihara and Odawara (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 2/13).

La Liga side Real Betis will wear green and white hoops in honor of Scottish Premiership side Celtic "in a one-off game to mark their origins." Real Betis was founded 110 years ago and "usually" plays in green and white stripes. But the team "will revert to hoops for one game later this month against Malaga to mark Andalusia Day" -- a day of celebration marking the region voting to become an autonomous community of Spain in '80 (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 2/13).

Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock FC Supporters Association, "unhappy" that former Chair Michael Johnston retains a place on the board, "wants fans to join their protest" during Sunday's match with Aberdeen. The action will involve fans "getting out of their seats, turning their back to the game and singing on the 18th minute" (DAILY RECORD, 2/13).

League One side AFC Wimbledon will "investigate an incident" between a club volunteer and Charlton Manager Karl Robinson at the end of Saturday's 1-1 draw. Robinson "was confronted as the teams left the pitch, and had to be restrained." Wimbledon CEO Erik Samuelson said, "Any abusive remark by a volunteer towards an opposition employee is completely unacceptable, and will not be tolerated" (BBC, 2/13).
