Spanish Hoops League Partners With Gran Canaria City Council, Awards Island Supercopa

The Spanish Basketball League (ACB) announced that the island of Gran Canaria will host this year's Supercopa and the 2018 Copa del Rey, according to the EFE. The ACB's agreement with the Gran Canaria City Council "is part of a project aiming to incorporate basketball in more than 200 schools." The three-year deal will see the city council invest in various initiatives promoting the sport, "with most of the investment intended for youth programs." Gran Canaria City Council VP Ángel Víctor Torres said that an audit showed an economic impact of €24M when the island hosted the Copa del Rey in '15. ACB President Francisco Roca "did not rule out the league forming similar partnerships with other cities in the future" (EFE, 2/13).
