Liverpool appointed HTC VP of Marketing & Sponsorships MARKUS BREGLEC as its new marketing director. In the newly created role, Breglec will be tasked with creating strategies to "drive growth, inspire innovation and foster collaboration." He has more than 19 years' experience working with brands including Nike, Sony and adidas. Having led HTC's partnership with the Champions League and Europa League, Breglec will look to strengthen the ties between the club's commercial partners and fans across mobile devices (THE DRUM, 2/8). ... Second Bundesliga club 1860 Munich has hired former player BERNHARD WINKLER as its new team manager. FLORIAN WAITZ, who held the position since Dec. '10, will leave the club (1860 Munich). ... Tennis South Africa announced that it appointed businesswoman GUGU NTULI and marketing exec GEOFF WHYTE to its board. Ntuli currently serves as a director of government agency CASIDRA, where she is also the chair of the social and ethics committee. Whyte, the CEO of restaurant chain Nando's, has experience leading organizations including Unilever, Pepsi, Cadbury Schweppes and SAB-Miller (SPORT24, 2/8). ... Publicis Groupe tapped LAURENT CAROZZI from Lagardère Group to serve as chief performance officer. Carozzi will report to Publicis Exec VP & CFO JEAN-MICHEL ETIENNE and will "oversee financial planning, account, financial data systems among other duties." Carozzi has spent the last 12 years at Lagardère, "first joining as investors relations director, before being appointed as head of group financial control" (THE DRUM, 2/7). ... Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority CEO BEN MCDEVITT will stand down in May, “ending a three-year stint which included one of the most controversial periods in Australian sport.” McDevitt took up the role in May ’14 and led the anti-doping organization during the “long-running Essendon supplements saga which saw 34 past and present players banned.” Sport Minister GREG HUNT said that McDevitt’s departure “was entirely of his own choosing” (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 2/8). ... L.A. 2024 announced the appointments of MARLA MESSING as VP & exec director of sport leader relations and PETER TOMOZAWA as VP & exec director for partnership/board relations. Formerly the president and CEO of the 1999 Women’s World Cup, Messing will manage relationships with domestic Olympic and Paralympic stakeholders. Tomozawa was the exec director of business development for Honolulu Mayor KIRK CALDWELL, and will manage relationships with institutional partners and board members (L.A. 2024).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Chennai City, a new entrant in the I-League, sacked coach ROBIN CHARLES RAJA seven games into the new season. The club is currently "at the bottom of the points table." Assistant coach ANDREW OAKLEY will take over as the caretaker coach until a replacement can be found (THE HINDU, 2/8). ... The FA of Ireland confirmed COLIN BELL will “take over as head coach” of the Republic of Ireland's women's senior national team. Bell “fills the vacancy left by SUE RONAN, who stepped down after six years in charge.” He begins the new role on Monday (RTE, 2/8). ... Former Charlton Ladies and Estonia women's national team Manager KEITH BOANAS was “appointed as the new head coach of Watford Ladies.” Watford said that its “future is secure after meetings on Monday.” Boanas, 57, led Charlton Ladies to three successive FA Women’s Cup finals, winning the trophy in ’05. He “also won the FA Women’s Premier League Cup” in ’04 and ’06 during his seven-year spell with Charlton (BBC, 2/7).
