Former Liverpool and France striker DJIBRIL CISSÉ "retired from football at the age of 35." Cissé originally "called time on his playing career" in Oct. '15 because of a hip injury but "hoped to make a return after having surgery last year." He now plans to focus on his career as "a DJ, producer and pundit" (BBC, 2/7). ... ROGER WALKOWIAK, the oldest surviving Tour de France champion, died, aged 89. Winner of the '56 race, the French rider of Polish heritage "was the most unheralded and under-rated of yellow jersey winners, his success coming in a Tour lacking defending champion LOUISON BOBET and rising star JACQUES ANQUETIL" (CYCLING WEEKLY, 2/7). ... Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen midfielder HAKAN CALHANOGLU said that "he will not collect his salary during his four-month suspension." The 22-year-old "will miss the rest of the season after being punished for a breach of contract" (BBC, 2/7).

'LOT OF FUN': U.S. President DONALD TRUMP said that he and Japanese PM SHINZO ABE will have "a lot of fun" playing golf together this weekend in Palm Beach, Florida, after their planned summit talks Friday. Trump: "We are going to have a round of golf, which is a great thing ... You get to know somebody better on a golf course than you will over lunch." Trump said that the "two leaders will travel to Palm Beach, presumably to his Mar-a-Lago estate, after their talks Friday at the White House" (KYODO, 2/7).
