Marketplace Roundup: MTN Becomes Arsenal's Official Mobile Telecom Network In Nigeria

Arsenal entered into a partnership with MTN, Nigeria's largest mobile network operator. MTN will become Arsenal's official mobile telecom network partner in Nigeria. The partnership will see MTN offer a number of Arsenal-related benefits to the club's following in Nigeria as well as to MTN's subscriber base. MTN will offer its customers access to a range of match and player exclusive content including match highlights, club news, interviews and club imagery via MTN Play (Arsenal). 

New Zealand’s Mud House Wines appointed British rugby player George North as a brand ambassador. North's appointment "further cements the position of Mud House in rugby -- the brand is already the official wine sponsor of The British & Irish Lions." North will "work with Mud House to build on the brand's sponsorship" of the team and will "feature prominently in Mud House customer marketing campaigns." Mud House will "also tap into North's large social media following to help the brand communicate its #ClearAsMud campaign" (THE DRINKS BUSINESS, 2/6).

Oil Search was named an official platinum partner of Papua New Guinea rugby. Oil Search, an oil and gas exploration and development company which first established itself in Papua New Guinea in '29, has long supported the development of sport, including rugby league, throughout the country. As an official platinum partner, Oil Search will have a branding presence in-stadia that will be seen in over 110 countries where the Rugby League World Cup 2017 is broadcast. Oil Search will also partner the World Cup Trophy Tour and community program to be run by the RLWC 2017 organizing committee throughout Papua New Guinea (RLWC).

Board of Control for Cricket in India Committee of Administrators member Vikram Limaye is expected to initiate the Invitation to Tender process for the four-year "team sponsorship" for the Indian team as Star India's term ends after the four Test series against Australia. Star India, which won the bid in Dec. '13, has been paying the BCCI 1.92 crore ($289,000) per match (SPORT STAR LIVE, 2/6).

IndusInd Bank has become the main backer of the Indian national team, "which is defending its title, at the ongoing T20 World Cup for Blind." As part of their partnership, the local financial services player "launched ‘The Other Men In Blue’ campaign, including videos and games" (ASIA SPONSORSHIP NEWS, 2/6).

Oil brand Liqui Moly has expanded its sponsorship deal with German Hockey League (DEL) side Eisbären Berlin. Liqui Moly has extended its deal with the hockey club for three years until '19-20. Liqui Moly's logo will be featured on the boards at the Mercedes-Benz Arena and on the sleeves of the team's jerseys (Liqui Moly).
