The World Olympians Association "expressed concern on Tuesday about the potential impact U.S. President Donald Trump's travel ban on visitors from some Muslim-majority nations could have on athletes and urged a quick resolution." The WOA, which serves as the member organization for the more than 120,000 Olympians worldwide, "wants to ensure the right of athletes to compete is protected in the wake of Trump's controversial immigration order." WOA President Joël Bouzou said, "We have specific concerns in relation to the impact this could have on certain athletes who may be restricted in their ability to train and compete in the United States over the next three months" (REUTERS, 1/31).
The IOC said that Russia was stripped of its women's 4x400m relay Silver Medal from the London 2012 Olympics "after Antonina Krivoshapka tested positive for drugs in the re-testing of her sample." Krivoshapka "was disqualified after a positive test for the anabolic steroid turinabol." Her relay teammates "will also be stripped of their medals" (REUTERS, 2/1).
The Asian Paralympic Committee announced that the 2017 Asian Youth Para Games will take place in Dubai, UAE, from Dec. 10-14. The last Asian Youth Para Games were held in Malaysia in '13. The event is being organized in conjunction with the Dubai Club for the Disabled, which will also host the events (IPC).
