Facility Notes: Cricket Stadium Being Built In Ahmedabad To Seat 110,000

A cricket stadium with a seating capacity of 110,000 is "in the works in Ahmedabad." Once completed, the stadium designed by "world renowned architect firm M/s. Populous" would be the "biggest one in the world." The new stadium will be spread across 63 acres in Motera, where the existing stadium has been demolished. The new stadium and other facilities will be constructed at a cost of Rs 700 crore ($105.2M) and the construction award has been given to L&T (THE HINDU, 1/16).

Around 80 spectators and players "had to sprint for the exits when the roof collapsed at a new arena in the Czech Republic" where two junior floorball teams were competing. They all managed to escape "without serious injury" when the "snow-laden" roof of the sports hall in Ceska Trebova began "giving way" on Saturday. Two boys who were taking part in the tournament were treated for "slight" injuries (REUTERS, 1/16).
