Scottish Side Aberdeen Submits Plans For New £40M Stadium In Kingsford

Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen has "submitted plans" for its new £40M ($48.2M) stadium in Kingsford, according to the Scotland DAILY RECORD. The club lodged its planning application for what it describes as a "sports hub for the north-east of Scotland" which will include the new 20,000-capacity stadium to replace Pittodrie, a football academy and community and sports facilities. The plans for the 24.5-hectare site were lodged with Aberdeen City Council and club Exec Vice-Chair George Yule said, "Our vision is to deliver essential community and training facilities and a new stadium, which will collectively support the ambitions of the Community Trust, Club and fans" (DAILY RECORD, 1/16). The SCOTSMAN reported Pittodrie has been home for Aberdeen since 1903, but in recent years the club has "looked at a number of options" to improve its infrastructure. The team hopes to be in the stadium by the start of the '20-21 season, "with the training facilities being used by players next year" (SCOTSMAN, 1/16).
